Pearl jewellery is inherently delicate

The beautiful lustre of your pearl can be quite easily damaged or scratched if you are not careful. Your pearls do not like to be exposed to dry air or too much heat. It is not a great idea to store your pearl jewellery in a safety deposit box as the air in those can be quite dry.

Pearls love humidity and should be worn as often as possible to pick up the moisture from your skin. However, pearls do not like swimming pools, baths, showers, hair spray, perfumes, cosmetics, body lotions, or any type of cleaning product. After you have worn your pearl jewellery it is a great idea to wipe it over with a soft damp cloth and allow to dry naturally.

Pearl jewellery should be one of the last things you put on when leaving the house, and one of the first to come off when you return.

Your pearl jewellery should have its own place in your jewellery case away from other sharper items. A jewellery pouch can be the ideal storage place for your pearl jewellery. Pearl chokers, pearl necklaces, strings of pearls, and pearl bracelets should have their strings checked at least annually. Pieces worn constantly should be checked every 6 months.

Cleaning your pearls is very easy. When you have removed them, or if they are looking dull or dirty, wipe them over with a damp soft cloth. Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, abrasives, toothbrushes, cleaning products, or soaps. If your pearl necklace should become wet, wait until it is dry before wearing it, as the silk string may stretch when wet. Do not leave your pearls to dry out in the sun.

Pearl earrings and pearl studs should be put on after you have applied hair products. Remove any pearl jewels from around your neck or hair before a session at the hair salon
